Positions require:

• All coaches are required to have a Type 10 or Type 20 drivers' certificate unless a medical condition prevents their ability to obtain.
• Interscholastic Coaching Course or previous ASEP/NFHS Certification
• Background/criminal history clearance
• Concussion Management Certification
• Anabolic Steroid Certification
• First Aid card
• Interrupting and Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
• OSAA Heat Illness prevention

Coaching Standards: The Expectations

1. The coach is professional

• Is ethical and respectful to athletes, competitors, parents and officials.
• Follows all the rules and school district expectations.

• The coach communicates well

• Communicates effectively with athletes, parents and district staff.
• Maintains an openness to athlete and parent concerns and facilitates appropriate parent and athlete meetings.

• The coach can provide a safe structure for the athletes

• Appropriately supervises students in locker rooms, training areas and while being transported.
• Organizes practice sessions and other activities with attention to individual and group safety.

• The coach can manage their season

• Is effective at managing or assisting with finances, scheduling, transportation and other responsibilities.
• Provides an adequate system for management of equipment.

• The coach is knowledgeable of their sport and can create competitive teams

• Is effective at teaching skills and strategies to athletes
• Can prepare a team for their opponents
• Can make adjustments during competition
• Abides by district and OSAA sport specific rules
• The coach can create a team where higher and lower skilled athletes alike are team orientated and are motivated by the team concept
