Construction Electrical Commissioning Technician - Controls

We’re seeking a Construction Electrical Commissioning Technician – Controls , you will perform field verification, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation for PLC control systems, fire alarm, SCADA, and associated electrical and mechanical interfaces across an air-cooled HPC data center campus. Reporting to the Electrical Construction Manager, you will coordinate daily with the Electrical Supervisor - Controls, commissioning team, design engineers, contractors, vendors, and operations personnel to move systems from installation completion through functional acceptance and final turnover. Job requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree, technical diploma, or recognized apprenticeship in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, Controls, Automation, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical commissioning, controls startup, instrumentation, fire alarm, or industrial automation, preferably in mission-critical, industrial, or data center environments. Working knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems, control panels, instrumentation, field devices, input/output systems, controls networks, and fire alarm monitoring and control interfaces. Ability to read and apply electrical one-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, risers, panel schedules, control narratives, sequences of operation, cause-and-effect matrices, I/O and points lists, network diagrams, submittals, and shop drawings. Experience using digital multimeters, loop calibrators, network diagnostic tools, manufacturer software, and other commissioning instruments in accordance with electrical safety, lockout/tagout, and site procedures. Familiarity with common controls and communications protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet/IP, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, or comparable open and vendor-specific protocols. Ability to document test results, installation discrepancies, software or configuration revisions, deficiencies, corrective actions, and retest evidence with accuracy and traceability. Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with the Electrical Supervisor - Controls, commissioning agents, contractors, vendors, engineering, and operations teams. Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems proactively. Valid Journeyman Electrician License. Other Important Requirements Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies. Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied. Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work. Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs. Employees working night shifts will receive a 15% premium added to their hourly rate only for hours worked during night shifts. Preferred Experience Prior experience commissioning controls and life-safety systems for hyperscale, AI, or HPC data centers, particularly air-cooled facilities and work adjacent to live mission-critical systems. Experience testing interfaces among switchgear, generators, ATS equipment, UPS systems, power monitoring, air-handling and cooling equipment, fire alarm, BMS/EPMS, PLC controls, and SCADA platforms. Familiarity with major PLC, fire alarm, and SCADA vendors; commissioning-management platforms; alarm and historian tools; redundant controls networks; software backups; and change-control processes. NICET Fire Alarm Systems, ISA CCST, OSHA 30, electrical license, NETA certification, or comparable controls, commissioning, electrical, fire alarm, or safety credential. Job responsibilities Coordinate daily commissioning priorities with the Electrical Supervisor - Controls and commissioning leadership while reporting progress, constraints, and technical issues to the Electrical Construction Manager. Review drawings, specifications, control narratives, sequences of operation, cause-and-effect matrices, I/O and points lists, network architecture, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and test procedures to understand system intent and acceptance requirements. Perform installation-readiness walkdowns of control panels, raceways, power and control cabling, instrumentation, fire alarm devices and modules, network equipment, grounding, bonding, labeling, penetrations, and equipment interfaces. Execute and document continuity checks, loop checks, point-to-point verification, device addressing, calibration checks, controls-network verification, communications testing, and visual inspections using approved procedures. Support verification of PLC and SCADA I/O, tags, alarms, graphics, trends, setpoints, user access, network addressing, time synchronization, historian functions, and data exchange with connected systems. Verify approved sequences, permissives, interlocks, shutdowns, and cause-and-effect responses, including fire alarm interfaces, while maintaining required life-safety authority, listing, and code compliance. Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, functional performance testing, failover testing, and integrated systems testing with controls vendors, fire alarm contractors, equipment manufacturers, commissioning agents, and operations personnel. Troubleshoot discrepancies across field devices, wiring, terminations, control panels, communications networks, software configuration, and programmed logic; document findings and coordinate corrective action with the responsible party. Create, update, and manage commissioning deficiencies and punch-list items; assign ownership, verify completion, perform or witness retesting, and maintain objective closure evidence. Follow approved electrical safety, lockout/tagout, energized-work, software change-control, cybersecurity, access-control, and method-of-procedure requirements throughout testing and commissioning. Maintain daily test records, progress quantities, constraint logs, redlines, issue trackers, software and configuration revision records, and clear handoff notes for the Electrical Supervisor - Controls and project leadership. Assemble turnover records, including signed test forms, final I/O and points databases, approved control narratives and cause-and-effect matrices, software and configuration backups, calibration records, deficiency closure, as-builts, O&M information, training records, and warranty documentation. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications.
