Job Description

This contract role focuses on high-volume order administration and customer service within a structured, process-driven environment in the life sciences sector. You will manage the full order lifecycle from receipt through fulfillment, handle customer inquiries across phone and email, and ensure accurate data entry into an order management system. This position is part of a large team onboarding initiative and offers the opportunity to contribute to products that support biological research worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Process a high volume of daily customer orders accurately into a database or order management system, ensuring all details are complete and correct.
  • Manage the full order lifecycle from initial receipt through fulfillment, monitoring orders to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve order discrepancies or issues quickly and accurately to minimize impact on fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
  • Handle customer inquiries and order-related questions professionally across multiple channels, including inbound phone calls and email.
  • Manage inbound phone calls and email inquiries simultaneously, prioritizing effectively while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
  • Navigate customer frustration related to order issues, communicate clearly and professionally, and provide appropriate resolutions or escalations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of customer information and order data at all times in accordance with company policies.
  • Work efficiently in a structured, process-driven data environment, adhering to established workflows and procedures.
  • Adapt to and operate within a new or recently implemented order management system, following updated processes and guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with a large customer service and order administration team, contributing to a cohesive and supportive group environment.
  • Participate in a coordinated onboarding process alongside a cohort of new hires, engaging actively in training and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the broader customer service team by helping manage increased workload resulting from a new system implementation.
Essential Skills
  • 1–2 years of experience in customer service or order administration, with direct responsibility for processing customer orders.
  • Hands-on experience processing a high volume of daily orders into a database or order management system.
  • Proven ability to manage the full order lifecycle from receipt through fulfillment, including issue identification and resolution.
  • Strong customer service skills, including experience managing customer inquiries across both inbound phone calls and email.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of customer interactions without sacrificing quality or professionalism.
  • High accuracy and efficiency in data entry within a structured, process-driven data environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an understanding of how errors in order entry impact fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
  • Professional phone etiquette and polished communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to navigate customer frustration and resolve order-related problems with patience and professionalism.
  • Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment, particularly during or after a new system implementation.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of customer information and order data.
  • High school diploma.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, particularly in life sciences or a related field, though not required.
  • Life sciences, biotechnology, or related industry background preferred, especially experience supporting scientific or biological research customers.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume order management or customer service environment.
  • Familiarity with order management systems, databases, and general database management concepts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a large onboarding cohort, contributing to a supportive team culture.
  • Comfort adapting to new technologies and processes during system rollouts or implementations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and customer requests simultaneously.
  • Professional demeanor and reliability in a corporate or scientific business setting.
Work Environment

This role is based in San Diego in a professional, fast-paced order management and customer service environment supporting life sciences and biological research products. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with work performed remotely on Mondays and Fridays and onsite from Tuesday through Thursday. Exact shift schedules will vary across the team and will be confirmed prior to start. You will join an expanding team created to support a new system implementation that has increased workload on the existing customer service group. All 12 new hires are intended to onboard together as a cohort, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. The workplace emphasizes structured, process-driven workflows, high-volume order processing, and strict confidentiality of customer data and order information.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
