Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the Radiologist,  performs Radiology Services procedures at a technical level requiring no constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures  required .  

Recognizes the  purpose employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a Technologist. Performs examinations on patients of various ages from pediatric to geriatric.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

• Selects and  operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis, selects and loads proper film cassettes, using film  markers correctly and consistently, develops film as  required .  

• Transfers and properly position s patients for examinations  in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications. Provides immobilization as  required and protection  in accordance with prescribed safety standards.  

• Assist physicians in performance of examinations by mixing and pouring contrast media, administering opaque media,  holding and turning patients,  assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as  required .  

• Performs a variety of clerical tasks to  include: inputting/editing exams, and completion of requisition prior to  sending images to radiologist for interpretation .  

• Receives verbal orders for examinations from a responsible practitioner in keeping with the state license.  

• Demonstrates Customer Service/Service Plus principles and behaviors appropriately.  

• Other duties as assigned.  

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

• Associate Degree or equivalent in Radiological Technology   required .  
• Must have been either “Grandfathered” by the state of Texas or passed with a certificate from a Radiology program accredited by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, American Society of Registered Technologists, and American College of Radiologist   required .  

  LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: (list  required and preferred separately) 

• Texas Department of Heal th MRT certification required .   
• Current BCLS certification required .  
• ARRT registere d  required or registry eligible  

  EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED : ( list  required and preferred separately) 

• Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation protection concepts and techniques   required .  
• Knowledge of radiographic physics , knowledge of medical terminology   required .  

  SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:  

• Reads and writes basic English, with the basic skills necessary to interpret physician ’ s orders .  
• Ability to lift  in excess of 100 pounds with  assistance   from other  staff .  
• Knowledge of department,  hospital and universal infection control policies.  
• Must have effective communication  and listening skills.  
• Must attend all department/hospital-mandated classes such as infection control, fire, safety,  etc , in a twelve-month period.  
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred .
