Overview Westwood Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community is hiring a Resident Care Director. The Resident Care Director is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of resident care in accordance with company guidelines for ACF Regulations. The Resident Care Director is in a leadership role in the community and therefore is expected to maintain professional perspective at all times by demonstrating positive customer service skills in dealing with both external and internal customers. Under the general direction of the Administrator, the Resident Care Director is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, and coordinating the resident care staff, supplies, and equipment in such a way that meaningful resident service is established to render optimum resident care. Provides feedback through appropriate chain of command recommending any needed change in policy. With Administrator oversight, implements a staffing schedule that takes into consideration the mix of PCA/HHA staff (if applicable) as well as the needs of the residents. This schedule is posted at least two weeks in advance, and all staff must be notified of their hours. Provides sufficient staff on each shift to assure uninterrupted service to resident at all times. Implements and maintains a system for assuring all appropriate staff participate in required in-services. Ensures that resident care staff receive required competency testing upon hire, annually and according to state regulation. Implements and keeps current systems that identify due dates for all initial and annual resident care documents. Assists with recruitment and coordinates the interview, references, and hiring process for the resident care department. Explains personnel policies and individual duties to each new employee and assists with orientation to the community, team and his/her job functions. Provides supportive ongoing and continual supervision for all resident care department staff utilizing the chain of command in the community. Monitors through daily rounds, the work of all resident care staff on shift, providing constructive feedback on how each is doing. Maintains and updates personnel records for each staff on a timely basis. Evaluates the work of each resident care staff person and provides opportunities for positive and/or constructive feedback on a regular and consistent basis. Holds regular staff meetings designed to educate and teach. Counsel employees as the need is apparent; dismiss from employment as policy and need indicate (with the approval of the Administrator and/or the HR Department). Oversees the process of person-centered care for residents. Ensures that Resident Care Staff provide all services and care for residents in a manner that emphasizes dignity and respect. Schedules meetings with resident and family as requested or when necessary to discuss concerns relating to resident care issues. Reviews all medication room procedures, at minimum on a weekly basis to determine if policies and procedures are being followed. Provides immediate follow-up to staff if this is not happening. Responds to medical providers’ recommendations and any other resident care issues in a timely manner. Documents actions accordingly. Responds to quality management audits and reports as required, and in a timely manner. Documents all follow up in a way that is determined by the Administrator. Requires On-Call duty as necessary for supervision, coverage issues, and community emergencies and as determined by the Administrator. Responsible for assuring that HIPPA and confidentiality practices are maintained in regard to residents and staff. Along with the Administrator and management team, assists in development and continual practice of positive leadership with the intent of providing excellent care to all residents. Completes all other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Meet reference and criminal record check requirements. Complete initial/annual health assessment requirements, including TB testing as required. Must be competent in passing medication and able to teach others the required skills, or ability to be trained. Requires the ability to work with monitoring and licensing agencies. Long-Term Care experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity preferred but not required. Possess a working knowledge of resident care particularly with the geriatric and adult special care needs population. A working knowledge of applicable NYS Adult Home Rules and Regulations. Develop and assist in providing 12 hours of in-service training per year for staff. Possess a valid NYS driver’s license that meets DePaul’s clean driving record policy. Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate with residents and others in the English language. Ability to read and write English. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without mechanical assistance. Ability to visually observe residents. Ability to audibly hear call bells, emergency systems, verbal needs expressed by residents. Ability to turn, stoop, bend and stretch in order to assist residents. Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies, including the evacuation of residents and visitors in the event of fire. Ability to push medication cart down hallway without assistance.
