Overview Retail Pharmacist - Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This position focuses on safe, efficient, high quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based medication services to all patients in outpatient specialty pharmacy settings. Responsibilities Check prepared medications and oversee dispensing of traditional and mail order prescriptions from the pharmacy. Complete clinical patient review for safety and accuracy. Provide drug information to patients and family members, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, medical students, and other hospital personnel as a resource. Screen for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug-allergy, drug-food, drug-disease state, and drug-laboratory interactions. Submit insurance claims and communicate with insurance companies as necessary. Participate in hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to the practice area. Position Summary Coordinate all aspects of patients\' specialty pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC inpatient and outpatient areas. Medication order approval and distribution; ensure appropriate dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy. Review patient medication profiles for interactions and duplication of therapy; provide patient counseling and disease state management. Coordinate pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses; communicate effectively with patients and other health care providers and insurance companies. Supervise technicians, oversee teaching of undergrad and grad students, and provide educational programs for learners. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor\'s Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio. 1-3 years of experience in retail or specialty pharmacy preferred. On-going Performs professional, supervisory, and teaching functions as outlined above. Maintains clinical privileges and licensure through OSUWMC.
