Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Med/Surg unit. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care and deliver exceptional nursing services in a challenging yet fulfilling environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care to individuals with a variety of medical conditions.
• Administer medications and manage intravenous drips, including titratable and set rate drips (e.g., analgesics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives).
• Monitor and interpret patient vital signs and clinical data.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to implement comprehensive patient care plans.
• Participate in unit activities, including staff meetings and continuing education.

Patient Population

The unit serves a diverse population with common diagnoses including:

• Congestive heart failure (CHF)
• Hypertension
• Chest pain work-ups
• COPD exacerbations
• Asthma and pneumonia
• Pancreatitis
• Bowel obstructions
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Acute renal failure

Work Schedule

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule.
• Holiday Requirement: Yes
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling options available.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Current certifications: ACLS (AHA) and BLS (AHA) required.
• NIHSS certification is a plus.
• Ability to read telemetry strips is essential, as there are no telemetry technicians on the unit.
• Must be capable of floating to other areas within Zone 1 as needed.

• Unit Type: Med/Surg (Medical Surgical)
• Total Beds: 24
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Nurse Aids Ratio: 1:5
• RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, and vents available on the unit.

Professional Development

All selected candidates must participate in a week of orientation and be present for all in-state activities, even if the first day modules are conducted remotely.

Dress Code

Scrubs are navy blue, and the dress code must be adhered to at all times.
