12-month Custodian (RES)

Job Description Rodgers Elementary School is currently accepting applications for a 12‑month Custodian for the upcoming school year. Start date as soon as possible. Key Requirements High‑school graduation or equivalency General knowledge and experience of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, and the ability to use them economically and efficiently Current and valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain and maintain a school bus license Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities General knowledge of standard methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and use of cleaning materials Ability to follow instructions and exercise independent judgment in completing work assignments Ability to perform medium‑physical work and establish effective working relationships as required by assignments Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments Essential Duties & Responsibilities Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff floor surfaces Cleans and disinfects restroom areas, replenishing paper supplies and soap as necessary Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds, heating/air vents, and light fixtures Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture Empty trash receptacles; deposit recyclable material in proper receptacles Sweep sidewalks and walkways outside buildings; police grounds, collect debris, shovel snow, and apply de‑icing compounds as necessary Cleans and sanitizes waste baskets and water fountains Raise and lower flags as needed Maintain inventory, requisition supplies, and pick up cleaning supplies as needed Open and secure buildings at beginning and end of workday; turn lights on/off; adjust heating or air conditioning as appropriate Wash windows on both the inside and outside Arrange furniture, tables, and chairs for meetings and other events Mow and trim grass on campus grounds; trim shrubbery, trees, etc.; rake and remove leaves as necessary Make minor building repairs as able; report major repairs and damage to principal Respond to after‑hours emergencies and work beyond normal hours as needed Drive a school bus when required to efficiently and effectively operate the school transportation system Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or maintenance director Physical & Cognitive Requirements Medium physical work requiring up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently. Must be able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, leaf blowers, and other janitorial equipment. Strong verbal, written, and mathematical communication skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions, perform basic calculations, and understand spatial relationships. Must be adaptable to working under minimal stress, communicate effectively in standard English, and handle hands‑and‑feet coordination.
