Family Support Worker

Second-Language Family Liaison Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D. Bilingual and fluent in spoken and written English and Spanish Community affiliations that would facilitate access to the Hispanic community Basic computer skills Dependable transportation for home visits Meets health and physical requirements To remove barriers for second-language families in Hamblen County, to remove language barriers in communication links between homes of students and the schools they attend, to aid families in meeting requirements of school registration and policy, and to assist non-English speaking parents of students with disabilities concerning parental procedural safeguards Conducts frequent visits to homes, camps, farms, plants, and schools in the community Completes and files with the Tennessee Department of Education the required reports relating to migrant children Completes information for final evaluation reports concerning support services provided to migrant students and families Serves as liaison between home, school, and community for the second-language populations Assists in identifying and connecting families with community agencies that address identified students needs Assists in second-language student registration in schools and summer programs Works in harmonious relationship with families and school staff Attends individualized education program (IEP) meetings for students with disabilities whose parents or guardians are non-English speakers Attends student disciplinary hearing authority meetings for students whose parents are non-English speakers Performs other duties as assigned This job requires lifting of objects that exceed 10 lb. and requires the ability to drive an automobile.
