ASSISTANT ENGINEER-ASSOCIATE ENGINEER-ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Engineer-Associate Engineer-Associate Civil Engineer in the Community Development and Services Department. Perform engineering work, including preparing design plans, specifications and engineering estimates related to roads, bridges, culverts and other County infrastructure; project management; assist in developing and administering professional services or construction project contracts; review plans and inspect projects; collect and present data and prepare reports; provide information and advice to the public and perform related work as assigned. This class is alternatively staffed and incumbents may advance to the next level after gaining experience, obtaining required certifications or registration and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications and expectations for that higher level class.

The ideal candidate:

• Demonstrates knowledge of civil engineering principles related to roads, bridges, culverts, and public infrastructure.
• Skilled in preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Effectively manages projects, priorities, schedules, and consultant or construction contracts.
• Applies sound judgment when reviewing plans, inspecting projects, and resolving technical issues.
• Communicates technical information clearly and professionally with contractors, consultants, colleagues, and the public.
• Collects, analyzes, and presents data to support informed engineering decisions.
• Works collaboratively while also exercising initiative and independence.
• Demonstrates a commitment to accuracy, quality, safety, and responsive public service.

Qualifications

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Education and Experience:

• Assistant Engineer: 

  • MINIMUM: Bachelors degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering or related field or foreign or non-US college Bachelors degree in related field with an evaluation of the educational units from a United States accredited college or an approved agency verifying coursework is equivalent to a Bachelors degree in civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of technical engineering experience in the United States.

  • PREFERRED:  In addition to the minimum, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and up to two (2) years of additional engineering experience.

  
  
  

• Associate Engineer: 

  • MINIMUM: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering or related field and four (4) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency or equivalent  OR  Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering or related field, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and two (2) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency or equivalent.

  • PREFERRED:  In addition to the minimum, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and additional years of civil engineering experience in a public agency setting.

  
  
  
  
  

• Associate Civil Engineer: 

  • MINIMUM: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering, Surveying or closely related field and two (2) years professional engineering experience.

  • PREFERRED:  In addition to the minimum, Masters degree in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency setting.

  
  
  
  
  

• The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
• Associate Civil Engineer: Possess registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California. 

• Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
• DMV printout prior to hire.
• Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.

Salary/Compensation: $6,678 - $9,426 per month
