Seasonal Lifeguard

Lifeguard Position

Under direction of the Pool Manager and Recreation Supervisor, supervise assigned areas of Splash Valley and Redwood Pool facilities according to guidelines established by the American Red Cross and the City of Apple Valley. Day, evening and weekend work will be required. This is an outdoor position which requires adapting to a variety of conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prevention of accidents both in the water and on the pool deck.
• Education of the public as to the causes of aquatic accidents and their prevention.
• Communicate with the public with a positive and professional attitude. Provide pleasant, proactive and approachable customer service.
• Maintaining the readiness and availability of rescue equipment in the facility.
• Evaluate the swimming abilities of all people using the pool. Test as needed.
• Perform regular guard duties as assigned. Enforce all pool safety rules, regulations and policies in a professional manner. Maintain surveillance of your assigned area and avoid distractions. Supervise pool deck and swim areas, being alert to swimmers who may need assistance.
• Provide rescue and emergency care to incident victims at Redwood or Aquatic Center.
• Help with daily maintenance procedures in all areas of the facility including restrooms and locker rooms.
• Responsible for attending all staff meetings and required number of in-service training sessions. Maintain the required level of physical fitness.
• Assist in opening and closing duties.
• Comply with established policies and procedures for employees of the City of Apple Valley.
• Complete accident and incident reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

• 15 years of age or older before start of work for Redwood outdoor pool. 16 years of age or older before start of work for Splash Valley.
• No experience necessary to apply.
• Requires Lifeguard American Red Cross Certifications or comparable before starting employment.
• Willing to work a schedule that may include weekends and holidays.
• Ability to interact with the public in a positive manner.
• Ability to work outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a lifeguard.
• Customer service experience.

Additional Information

This posting will be hiring lifeguards for the 2026 season at Splash Valley and Redwood Outdoor Pool. Day, evening and weekend work will be required. Open daily June 5 to August 23, 2026, weather permitting. Accepting applications until positions are filled. Employment offer will be contingent upon successful background check.
