Part Time Youth Director

Part Time Youth Director Grace UMC is seeking a part-time Youth Director to create an inclusive, safe community for 6th–12th graders, focusing on spiritual growth, mission, and fellowship. Responsibilities include planning weekly meetings, organizing retreats, planning and leading service projects and fellowship activities, communicating with parents, and ensuring compliance with Safe Gatherings policies. Reporting & Compensation Reports to: Lead Pastor Status: Part Time (average 15 hr/week) Salary: $25/hour (up to $20,000 annually) Key Responsibilities Oversee Confirmation. This includes: Coordinate weekly Sunday morning gatherings, with curriculum that will be provided by Grace UMC Plan and lead one overnight lock-in Assist Lead Pastor in planning Confirmation Sunday service and meal Plan and lead once-a-month fellowship opportunities Cultivate relationships with youth through school events, sporting events, and social media. Plan and lead yearly summer youth trip (typically UNITE week at Central Methodist University) plus one additional mission opportunity. Separate stipend available for youth trips over two days (recognizing that attending a week‑long event would use most of the allotted hours for this position) Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers. Communication: Maintain regular, clear communication with parents and the congregation regarding youth activities. Administration: Manage the youth budget, fundraising efforts, and adhere to Safe Gatherings or similar child protection policies. Qualifications Experience working with middle and high school age youth. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred (especially in theology, education, or youth ministry) or equivalent experience in youth leadership. Methodist Alignment: Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, United Methodist doctrine, theology, and the United Methodist Church’s approach to inclusivity. Safe Sanctuary Compliance: Must pass a background check and complete Safe Gatherings/Safe Sanctuary training. Skill List Clear written and verbal communication — Writes effective newsletters, parent updates, social media posts, and announcements. Public speaking — Comfortable addressing youth, parents, volunteers, and the broader church community. Social media and digital engagement — Uses digital platforms appropriately to connect with youth and families and to strengthen the program. Partnership building — Collaborates well with parents, volunteers, church staff, and other ministries. Volunteer recruitment & support — Identifies, invites, trains, and encourages volunteers to serve in youth ministry. Policy compliance — Follows child protection policies, mandatory reporting laws, and church governance procedures. Emotional intelligence — Reads situations well and responds with empathy, maturity, and good judgment. Adaptability — Handles last‑minute changes, youth unpredictability, and evolving ministry needs with calm and flexibility. Creativity — Brings fresh ideas for engagement, teaching, and outreach. Servant leadership — Models humility, integrity, and a Christ‑centered approach to leadership. Desire to learn — Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing growth, reflection, and improvement. Sense of humor — Cultivates joy, wonder, and a fun, welcoming environment for youth. Flexibility: Availability for weekend activities, evenings, and summer camps/trips.
