The Ferry Building has been central to San Francisco's food culture for over 125 years. It’s a place for fresh market offerings, a cup of coffee, a quick meal—a place for people in motion. What it has lacked is a place to stay. Lucania changes that, bringing light, scale, and a steady energy to a once-quiet corner of the building. Inspired by Southern Italian piazzas, it introduces a continuous rhythm where coffee turns into lunch, aperitivo into dinner, and the room fills as the day unfolds. Lucania will be a place guests can return to at any hour and find it alive, adding a sense of energy and gathering the Ferry Building has not consistently held. Lucania is the newest addition to DOC Group, a hospitality group currently operating A16 restaurants and Tansy Wines, shaped by years of partnership, investment, and shared commitment to Southern Italian food and culture. Role Description The Assistant General Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco, CA, responsible for supporting daily restaurant operations and ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction. This role oversees front-of-house service, assists with staff scheduling, training, and coaching, and helps maintain standards for hospitality, cleanliness, and safety. The Assistant General Manager collaborates with the General Manager and culinary leadership on service flow, menu changes, and wine program execution, including overseeing reservations and private events. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising shifts, handling guest feedback, monitoring inventory and ordering for front-of-house needs, and supporting financial and administrative tasks as assigned. The role works closely with team members to foster a positive work environment and consistent, attentive service that reflects A16 and Lucania’s values. Qualifications Experience in restaurant or hospitality management, with a strong understanding of front-of-house operations and guest service. Experience with restaurant openings, staffing, and training FOH positions will be highly desirable. Outstanding people skills, scheduling, and performance feedback to support a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Knowledge of food and beverage service, with interest or experience in Italian cuisine and wine programs considered beneficial. Ability to manage multiple priorities during service, including problem-solving, conflict resolution, and handling guest concerns professionally. Competence with basic administrative and operational tasks, such as POS systems, reservations platforms, inventory tracking, and cash handling. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and guests. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in a full-service restaurant environment.
