About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 30 Hours Guaranteed Per Week Experience: Minimum of 2 Years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN EMF Intermediate Certification Preferred, STABLE Preferred Must-Have: - Minimum of 1 Year OB Experience - Ability to Work Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, Mom/Babe Couplets, & Well Baby Nursery - Comfortable Taking Post-Surgicals (Post-Appearance, Post-Gallbladder, Etc.) on the OB Unit - Prefer Some MedSurg Background Description: Labor and Delivery department requiring RN staff. Unit includes 6 LDRP beds. C-sections are performed in main OR. No triage or postpartum beds are available. Approximately 17 births are conducted each month; around 220 annually. Guidelines followed for ratios. Common patient diagnoses include labor, delivery, postpartum, and mom/babe couplets. Patients over 34 weeks are accepted; those under 34 weeks are transferred out. Well baby nursery services provided including IV antibiotics, IV dextrose, feeders/growers, and bili babies. Nurses can take post-surgical patients (post-appendectomy, post-cholecystectomy, etc.). No circulation or recovery skills needed for C-sections. Experience required in titrating drips such as oxytocin, magnesium, and insulin. Two nurses are staffed for each shift with a house supervisor on duty 24/7. No charge nurse present. No aides or surgical techs on the unit. OB/neonatologist available in-house during the day from Monday to Friday and on-call after hours, weekends, and holidays. Anesthesia is in-house during the day from Monday to Friday, also on-call after hours, weekends, and holidays. Telemetry/monitor techs are available on the unit. Efficient monitoring system in use. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, either from 7 AM to 7:30 PM or from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. The manager sets the schedule and will try to accommodate requests. Nurses are required to work every third weekend and every third holiday. No call or standby requirement, though floating to MedSurg may occur as needed. Scrubs are provided for uniforms.
