About the Organization:  Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

About YouthLine:  YouthLine is a free peer-to-peer help, support, and crisis line for youth ages 10-24. For over 25 years, the YouthLine has helped support the mental wellness of young people, prevent youth suicide, and change culture around mental wellbeing through teen-to-teen mental health support. Teen and young adult volunteers and interns receive extensive training to serve as peer counselors for other youth and are supervised by educated clinicians with extensive crisis experience. The peer experience is critical: youth best understand the experience of their peers because they are living the same experience, uniquely situating them to provide meaningful, impactful support for youth in crisis.

YouthLine Clinical Supervisor Position Summary: The YouthLine Clinical Supervisor provides direct supervision, mentorship, and clinical oversight to youth and young adult volunteers on the YouthLine help, support, and crisis line. This role also supports the development and delivery of clinical training, implements quality assurance practices, and fosters a safe, inclusive environment that supports youth growth and well-being. The Supervisor balances real-time supervision with direct crisis line work, ensuring consistent, compassionate, and clinically sound support for youth in crisis while supporting best practices in youth development. 

YouthLine Clinical Supervisor Duties & Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life and the YouthLine. 
• Supervise and mentor YouthLine volunteers answering calls, texts, and chats during scheduled shifts, supporting the goals and purpose of YouthLine and Lines for Life. 
• Maintain and follow YouthLine contact procedures and follow all safety protocols. 
• Provide real-time support, coaching, and clinical guidance to volunteers and interns while taking contacts. 
• Establish rapport with YouthLine volunteers and contacts, and act as a resource of knowledge and systems use for volunteers. 
• Identify and/or offer appropriate available resources that can be provided to contacts and support the efforts of YouthLine. 
• Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages learning, resilience, and growth. 
• Respond to high-acuity contacts when they exceed the scope of youth volunteers. 
• Provide clinical judgment on the need for emergency services or protective intervention. 
• Monitor contact documentation for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to clinical expectations. 
• Complete call monitoring for each volunteer and intern at least quarterly in alignment with accreditation standards and program expectations. 
• Identify quality gaps and provide timely, constructive feedback to youth volunteers. 
• Support onboarding and training of new youth volunteers. 
• Attend required meetings (team supervision, clinical supervision, staff meetings, etc.). 
• Assist with coordinating the logistics of crisis intervention trainings for YouthLine volunteers (orientation, interviews, training, shadows). 
• Assist in YouthLine Peer Crisis Intervention Specialist Training (training and shadows). 
• Schedule volunteers (training, shadows, weekly shift coverage, monthly meetings, continuing education, etc.). 
• Communicate important information to volunteers in a timely manner. 
• Systematically check in with volunteers, with a focus on youth mental health and wellness. 
• Offer support and connect with external resources as necessary (parents, therapists, schools, etc.). 
• Maintain current information for all volunteers (contact information, relevant forms, background checks, etc.).

YouthLine Clinical Supervisor Required Qualifications/Skills:  

• Master’s Degree in a related social sciences field (required)
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth in a crisis, mentorship, or mental health setting. 
• Crisis intervention training (ASIST, safeTALK, or YMHFA preferred). 
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to mentor youth with compassion and maintain professional boundaries. 
• High cultural competency and commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed care. 
• Ability to assess and manage high-risk situations under pressure. 
• Proficient in database and Microsoft Office applications.

Travel: This position may occasionally travel to schools, community events, and meetings, primarily within the state of Hawaiʻi. 

YouthLine Clinical Supervisor Salary : The starting base rate for this role is $27 per hour plus a $2/hr. differential for employees who possess a Master's degree in a related field and a $1/hr. differential for hours worked in the office when regularly working in the office 3 days per week ($30 per hour when those differentials apply). See below for more details about the compensation package. 

Compensation: This is a union position with a step progression based upon years of service at Lines for Life, and below is the current step scale for the base rate, and each step would have the $2 graduate degree differential and $1 in-office differential added onto the base pay when applicable:

0-3 years: $27.00 

3-5 years: $28.62 

5-7 years: $30.34 

7-10 years: $32.16

>10 years: $34.09 

Benefits: Under Hawaii’s Prepaid Health Care, this position may be eligible for health insurance benefits in Lines for Life by regularly working 20 hours or more per week and if the monthly wage is at least 86.67 times the current Hawaii minimum hourly wage. If you work concurrently for two or more employers, you are required to designate the principal and secondary employer and file notification (Form HC-5) with your employers who, in turn, will file the notification with this Division. The principal employer shall be the employer who pays you the most wages; only in cases where the employer who does not pay the most wages employs you for at least 35 hours per week do you determine which of the employers shall be the principal employer. The designated principal employer is required to provide coverage pursuant to the law (393-6, 393-16). Your determination of principal employer is binding for one year or until change of employment occurs. Whenever you elect to make a change with respect to the status of each, notification (Form HC-5) must be filed. In 2026 Lines for Life is contributing 95%, up to a maximum of nine hundred fifty dollars ($950) of the combined cost of employee health and dental insurance premiums to insurance eligible employees. Lines for Life also contributes 45% up to a maximum of seven hundred dollars total of the additional combined cost to add a dependent(s) on the base plan. In 2026 the health insurance plans available in your region use the Cigna network through Kaiser PPO plans and include prescription drug, vision, and alternative care supplemental benefits. Additionally, Lines for Life offers a competitive paid time off package; a matching 401K plan equivalent to 3% of the annual salary during the first 2 years of employment after passing the match eligibility date; as well as a flexible spending plan; an employee assistance program; public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) employment certification; and eligibility to participate in an extracurricular professional development program after 6 months of employment.
