About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN - Neuro Trauma Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/PCU/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Experience in a medical-surgical, progressive care unit, or intensive care unit setting within the past year is essential. Experience with drip medications is required. Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator patients is highly preferred. Description: The unit has 28 beds. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night, depending on patient acuity. Common diagnoses and types of patients include neuro-focused cases such as strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, and thrombectomies, as well as trauma orthopedic injuries from falls and accidents. RNs are expected to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin. Nights typically have a full team assignment, while days may involve a smaller assignment. There are nurse aides on the unit, with day ratios of 1:9 and night ratios of 1:12. Respiratory therapy equipment such as ventilators, tracheostomies, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapo therm, and EtCO2 are utilized. RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips. Self-scheduling is available, with management balancing schedules. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend, and holiday requirements typically involve two or three holidays during winter, with other holidays every other. Floating to sister medical-surgical units with varying specialties may occur. Any solid color scrubs are acceptable for the dress code. A general orientation shift and a preceptor shift are included in the orientation process for the unit. All clinicians must clock in and out during their shifts.
