The Regional Sports Director provides leadership and operational oversight for youth and adult sports programs across an assigned region of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality, and consistent sports operations by supporting branch staff, standardizing program delivery, developing volunteers and coaches, managing regional budgets, and driving program growth. Working collaboratively with the Association Sports Director and branch leadership, the Regional Sports Director ensures YMCA sports programs reflect the organization's mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to exceptional participant experiences.

Essential functions include providing regional leadership and oversight for youth and adult sports programs, recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, developing, and evaluating sports staff, officials, and volunteers while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, sportsmanship, and exceptional customer service. The Regional Sports Director champions a culture of excellence by leading high-quality programs, promoting membership and program participation, and creating welcoming, engaging, and five-star experiences for members, participants, and families.

Collaboration with the Association Sports Director and branch leadership is key to implementing strategic initiatives, expanding programming, improving operational consistency, and identifying opportunities for growth. The Regional Sports Director develops and manages regional program budgets, monitors financial performance, and recommends strategies to improve participation, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. They lead the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of leagues, clinics, camps, tournaments, and special events that meet community needs and YMCA standards.

Ensuring compliance with YMCA policies, abuse risk management practices, state and local regulations, volunteer screening requirements, and safety standards is crucial. The Regional Sports Director builds and maintains collaborative relationships with schools, municipalities, community organizations, volunteers, sponsors, and other strategic partners to strengthen regional sports programming. They respond professionally to participant and member concerns, resolve operational issues, and model a welcoming, service-focused environment for participants, families, staff, and volunteers.

Supporting marketing initiatives, fundraising efforts, sponsorship development, and the Annual Support Campaign while promoting YMCA sports throughout the community is also part of the role. The Regional Sports Director travels regularly between assigned branch locations, providing operational support to branch teams and serving as a leader in branch fundraising activities for the Annual Support Campaign, including the solicitation of funds to support financial assistance, military family initiatives, community outreach, and branch goals and objectives.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements is also essential. The Regional Sports Director performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a minimum age of 21 with a high school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, Business, or a related field preferred. Minimum three years of leadership experience in youth sports, recreation, or a related field, including staff supervision, volunteer management, program development, and budget oversight. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead multiple locations, build community partnerships, and manage competing priorities. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire), completion of YMCA required training, and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and travel throughout the assigned region.

Work environment and physical demands include sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties, including emergency response. The employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit/stand and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
