Heavy Equipment Mechanic

This role focuses on performing maintenance and repair on a wide range of heavy equipment, with a strong emphasis on golf carts. You will independently diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, use a variety of hand and power tools, and operate equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, generators, and pumps to ensure they meet quality and efficiency standards. The position requires strong technical aptitude, the ability to interpret detailed schematics and manuals, and basic computer skills to document work and support fleet management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment, with the majority of time spent servicing and repairing golf carts.
  • Operate and test equipment, including golf carts, boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps, and assorted tools to ensure they meet quality and efficiency standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet equipment and trucks with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulic systems, and fuel systems to identify faults and required repairs.
  • Perform major repairs on fleet equipment using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct oil changes, lubrication services, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and other routine service tasks.
  • Recondition and replace assorted parts on heavy equipment to extend service life and maintain reliability.
  • Identify and diagnose problem areas for significant wear, damage, or malfunction on equipment and recommend corrective actions.
  • Utilize warranty repair processes, including saving and marking parts, accurately recording parts and labor on work orders, and contacting vendors when necessary.
  • Enter work orders, service notes, and diagnostic findings into the fleet management system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete parts ordering through the fleet management system to ensure timely and correct replacement components.
  • Maintain and use a sufficient selection of personal hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services.
  • Follow all safety procedures and product warning labels while working on equipment and moving vehicles in the yard and shop.
  • Support a customer-focused environment by ensuring equipment is serviced efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in heavy equipment repair, with significant exposure to golf carts or similar equipment.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulic systems, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps, and assorted tools and equipment.
  • Ownership of a sufficient selection of hand tools and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds as part of daily duties.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels.
  • Basic computer skills to enter information into fleet management or related systems.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with a focus on delivering reliable and timely service.
  • Energetic, self-directed, and safety-conscious approach to work.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, hose repairs, and battery replacements.
  • Experience reconditioning and replacing parts on heavy equipment or similar machinery.
  • Familiarity with warranty repair processes, including documenting parts and labor and coordinating with vendors.
  • Comfort working in an environment that requires both yard and shop-based tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail when diagnosing wear, damage, and potential failure points on equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple work orders and parts requests through a fleet management system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while supporting team and operational goals.

Work Environment

This position involves working in an equipment yard and shop environment. You will frequently work outdoors and be exposed to all types of weather while cleaning, washing, moving, and testing vehicles and equipment. Some tasks will be performed indoors in a shop setting using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. The role requires regular physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds and moving equipment around the yard. You will use a variety of heavy equipment and support technologies, including fleet management systems for work orders and parts ordering. Dress and personal protective equipment should be appropriate for a mechanical yard and shop environment, with a focus on safety and readiness for outdoor and indoor tasks.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Point, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
