Communications Coordinator

Description The Communication Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing comprehensive communication, marketing, and public engagement strategies that promote Parks and Recreation programs, facilities, events, and initiatives. This position manages digital and print communications, social media, website content, branding, public information campaigns, community outreach, and media relations while ensuring consistent messaging that reflects the City’s mission and values. Responsibilities Develop and implement annual marketing and communication plans. Create promotional campaigns for recreation programs, special events, athletics, aquatics, senior services, parks, and community initiatives. Produce brochures, flyers, newsletters, advertisements, banners, and other marketing materials. Maintain consistent department branding across all communications. Develop communication timelines for seasonal program guides and major events. Manage and update the department website. Create engaging social media content across multiple platforms. Monitor social media interactions and respond to public inquiries. Develop digital advertising campaigns. Assist with public presentations and community meetings. Promote community surveys and public input opportunities. Design seasonal program guides, event posters, and flyers. Coordinate event signage and promotional materials. Support staff communication initiatives. Develop communication templates and branding standards. Assist with planning and promoting special events. Represent the department at community events and outreach activities. Prepare monthly communication reports. Oversee event permitting applications and coordination. Recommend improvements based on data analysis. Qualifications Experience, Education and Licensing Requirements Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Recreation Administration, or a related field. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field. Valid driver's license. Occupational/Technical Skill Set Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Google Analytics, and recreation management software such as CivicRec, RecDesk, ActiveNet, or similar. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimal direction. Cognitive Skill Set Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong graphic design abilities. Knowledge of branding and marketing principles. Experience managing social media platforms. Ability to create engaging digital content. Strong organizational and project management skills. Communications Skill Set Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials. Interpersonal Skill Set Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various individuals or groups. Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the general public. Ability to use tact and discretion. Leadership Skill Set Ability to maintain issue confidentiality. Creativity and innovation. Strong attention to detail. Excellent customer service. Work Environment Work is performed in both office and outdoor settings. Evening and weekend work is occasionally required to support department events, public meetings, and community programs. Employee is regularly required to walk, sit, see, use hands, reach with hands and arms, speak, hear and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
