Job Description

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation team, delivering physical therapy services to patients based on their plan of care. Under the supervision of a Registered Physical Therapist (RPT) and adhering to agency policies and state regulations, the PTA is responsible for the following:

• Providing physical therapy treatments as prescribed and after initial evaluations by an RPT.
• Administering therapies to alleviate pain, enhance or restore functionality, and sustain optimal physical performance using physical modalities such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light, and electricity.
• Guiding patients through active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait training, and activities of daily living, including transfer and prosthetic training.
• Utilizing specialized equipment, including ultra-violet and infrared lamps, low-voltage generators, diathermy, and ultrasonic machines.
• Monitoring and documenting patients' responses to treatment and any changes in their conditions, reporting findings to the RPT.
• Educating patients and their caregivers on self-care methods and appropriate activities.
• Coordinating with health agencies to facilitate access to necessary equipment for patients.
• Completing and submitting accurate clinical notes and required documentation promptly and in compliance with agency standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid license as a Physical Therapist Assistant in Vermont and New Hampshire or possess a compact license.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
• One year of experience as a PTA in a home health care setting is preferred.
