Special Events Staff

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in working special events operated by the Library and Recreation Services Department. In this role, individuals will help set up and take down events and work the events while giving great customer service to the public. The work schedule is based on the events that are coming up, with 5 to 20 hours available for each event.

Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

The minimum age is 16. Availability to work evenings and weekends is mandatory. Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternative transportation as approved by the hiring authority is required.

Desirable qualifications include: Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision or in a team with other staff; Experience working directly with the public in a recreation, hospitality or education setting; Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook).
