Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: Will accept first-time travelers. Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU with Epic or Cerner experience. If strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Staff must be gone from the facility for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day (week): 2/13 -16; entire month of March; Easter Weekend: 4/18 – 20; Mother’s Day Weekend: 5/10-12; Memorial Day (week): 5/24 – 5/26; Father’s Day Weekend: 6/14-16; Fourth of July: 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend: 8/30-9/1; Halloween: 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving: 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s: 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: Possible home units include 6 North Trauma Surgical (general surgery and vascular surgeries; patient ratio 1:5-6), 5 South Neuroscience (CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post trauma, angiogram; patient ratio 1:5-6), 5 North MedSurg/Oncology (all patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/Oncology patients; 1:6 for RN and LPNs), 4 South Clinical Decision Unit (general MedSurg including COPD, CHF, Diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Sepsis, UTI, End of Life Comfort; patient ratio 1:5-6), 3 South Orthopedics (orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies; patient ratio 1:5; 1:6 if MedSurg), and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology (urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg; patient ratio 1-5:6). Common skills/procedures across units include wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG tubes, trach care, ostomy care, surgical site care, C-collars, abdominal binders, PCA pumps, negative pressure dressings, wound vacs, hemovacs/JP drains, Foley care, IV starts, central line blood draws/dressing changes, and chemo administration if certified. Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hours strip readings. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors. Parking: Parking deck only 2nd through 4th levels.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No on-call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. 4 week cycle period; no self scheduling, utilize Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to like units/patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.

7 days maximum time off.
