Provide outreach and casework services to parents of children who are having difficulty in school. Consult and advise other school personnel on cases to modify a pupil’s behavior or serve as liaison between school and home. Establish liaison with local and county agencies for a continuum of services on referral and consultative basis. Provide feedback to school personnel regarding active cases referred for assistance. Assist in the social adjustment of pupils who are new to the community or returning from institutions. Provide consultative and outreach services to preschool and primary school programs as early detection and preventative measure. Be responsible for other social work activities deemed appropriate by the building principal and/or Director of Special Education. Counsel students with personal and psychological issues that affect performance, behavior, and socialization. Provide counseling sessions, treatment plans, workshops as necessary and establish prevention/ intervention plans. Communicate with students to determine areas of need. Assist teachers and administrators with behavioral and attitude issues by finding causes of distress. Provide information to outside support services for economic, emotional, or physical issues. Assist at-risk students or students with disabilities. Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand students’ challenges. Maintain case files and reports to track progress. Help students and families suffering from abuse, violence, hunger, or homelessness access resources like shelters, food banks, medical care. QUALIFICATIONS: Certification as a New York State School Social Worker. Master's in Social Work. Prior experience in a school setting. Background in children and family services. Salary: Appropriate placement on teachers’ salary schedule Period of Employment: Ten (10) months Reports to: Building Principal; Responsible to Special Education Supervisor and Director of Special Education.
