Director Of Art (Curriculum & Programs)
Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley is seeking a passionate, hands-on educator to serve as our Director of Art (Curriculum & Programs). The Director serves as the organization's Creative Arts subject matter expert and is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing organization-wide art exhibits, performing arts programs, and youth showcase events that celebrate creativity and youth achievement. The position also oversees performing arts instructors, equipment, schedules, and community partnerships to ensure engaging and meaningful opportunities for youth.
Principal curricular efforts focus on improving youth outcomes in creativity, self-expression, fine and gross motor development, visual-spatial processing, collaboration, confidence, and self-control. Working collaboratively with Youth Development Professionals, Club Directors, volunteers, and community partners, this position supports a learning environment that is engaging, inclusive, and inspiring while increasing youth participation, artistic proficiency, and awareness of creative career pathways. This position requires exceptional leadership, project management, communication, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Creative Arts curriculum.
- Conduct research and consult with staff to design innovative curriculum and instructional resources.
- Review and assess curriculum to ensure alignment with organizational goals and youth outcomes.
- Develop instructional materials, lesson outlines, facilitator guides, and assessment tools.
- Develop and maintain curriculum resources and research databases.
- Create and expand programming in visual arts, music, dance, theater, and other creative disciplines.
- Develop curricular goals and learning progressions for new and existing programs.
- Lead staff training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development related to Creative Arts instruction.
- Observe programs and use data to improve curriculum and instructional practices.
- Identify guest artists, instructors, and trainers to enhance staff development.
- Stay current on best practices through research, conferences, networking, and professional learning opportunities.
- Serve as the organizational leader for Creative Arts programming across all Club locations.
- Develop annual Creative Arts program plans, calendars, and implementation strategies.
- Monitor implementation and participation across Clubs to ensure equitable access and consistent program quality.
- Support Club staff in planning engaging visual and performing arts experiences for youth.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and execute organization-wide Creative Arts exhibitions and showcase events.
- Oversee all Club Art Exhibits, ensuring participation from every Club location.
- Develop exhibit timelines, artwork collection processes, installation plans, judging (if applicable), and recognition activities.
- Coordinate logistics for transporting, displaying, and showcasing youth artwork.
- Ensure exhibits and showcases reflect high-quality standards while celebrating youth creativity.
- Oversee organization-wide Performing Arts programming including music, dance, theater, and related disciplines.
- Coordinate performing arts instructors, rehearsal schedules, performances, and showcase events.
- Manage performing arts equipment, supplies, inventory, and maintenance.
- Develop partnerships that expand performing arts opportunities for youth.
- Cultivate relationships with community organizations, local businesses, schools, and venues that support performing arts programming.
- Supervise volunteers supporting Performing Arts initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships that support Creative Arts programming.
- Collaborate with community organizations, artists, businesses, and cultural institutions.
- Identify opportunities for grants, special projects, artist residencies, exhibitions, and performances.
Requirements
- Serve as the organizational subject matter expert in Creative Arts.
- Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate Creative Arts curriculum and programming.
- Support Clubs through coaching, mentoring, classroom modeling, and instructional feedback.
- Ensure quality implementation of Creative Arts curriculum across all Club locations.
- Plan and facilitate organization-wide Creative Arts events, exhibits, performances, and showcases.
- Coordinate annual calendars for exhibitions, performances, and special events.
- Monitor Club participation and provide coaching and follow-up to maximize engagement.
- Coordinate performing arts instructors, equipment, rehearsal schedules, and event logistics.
- Maintain inventory and oversee purchasing of Creative Arts and Performing Arts supplies and equipment.
- Develop systems and procedures that support consistent implementation of Creative Arts programming.
- Apply research and data to improve curriculum and instructional outcomes.
- Collaborate with staff to evaluate and revise curriculum documents.
- Support classroom management and quality programming standards.
- Develop budgets and cost estimates for curriculum, supplies, showcases, and special events.
- Provide leadership for volunteers supporting Creative Arts programming.
- Collaborate across departments to support organization-wide initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, inventories, and program documentation.
- Serve as an ambassador for BGCSV Creative Arts programs within the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Program Impact.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Art Education, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Arts Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of successful experience working with youth in Creative Arts programming.
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational programming.
- Experience planning and coordinating youth performances, exhibits, showcases, or community events preferred.
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or instructors.
- Strong knowledge of visual arts and/or performing arts programming.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, Canva, and other digital tools used to develop curriculum, instructional resources, presentations, and creative educational content.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Negative TB Test.
- Successful background clearance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Ability to speak and hear effectively.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to transport curriculum materials, art supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Ability to set up displays and assist with exhibit and showcase preparation.
Additional Responsibilities
- Purchase curriculum materials, art supplies, equipment, and instructional resources.
- Coordinate organization-wide Creative Arts exhibits and showcase events.
- Maintain inventory of Creative Arts and Performing Arts equipment.
- Support organization-wide special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Boys & Girls Clubs are often stressful, busy, and noisy environments. This role is expected to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, collaborate with staff across numerous Club locations, travel between sites, and support evening or weekend events as necessary to ensure successful implementation of Creative Arts programming and showcases.
