Legal Operations Associate

The listed base salary range for this position is based upon the location(s) of this posting. Individual salaries are determined through a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. Base salary does not include other forms of total compensation such as bonus compensation and other benefits. As the Legal Operations Associate within The Voleon Group's growing Legal and Compliance Department, you will receive substantive, hands‑on exposure across the full breadth of an in‑house legal function at a quantitative investment firm. The associate will work directly alongside a high-performing team of attorneys and operations professionals. This role offers a rare opportunity to gain in‑house hedge fund legal experience early in your career. We are seeking candidates who are interested in growing with the team and expect to remain in the role for at least two years. We are hiring for a Summer 2027 start. This role is hybrid, with an expectation of working in our Berkeley or New York office at least three days per week. Responsibilities Support the Legal Department across its core work streams, including: Fund and other investment product launches Investor side letter review and negotiation NDA and commercial contract negotiations IP and trademark matters Secured finance transactions New business initiatives and strategic projects Work directly with outside counsel on active matters, gaining exposure to how outside relationships are managed and negotiations are run. Partner with attorneys and legal operations professionals on the day‑to‑day matters that keep the department running. Collaborate cross‑functionally with other Voleon teams, including Engineering, Finance, Compliance, HR, Business Strategy, and Trading, on matters that span multiple parts of the firm. How you’ll Grow Direct mentorship from a team of attorneys and legal operations professionals who invest in your development. Substantive exposure to live negotiations, transactions, and outside counsel relationships, not just administrative support. A structured introduction to how legal, compliance, and business functions intersect at a quantitative investment firm. A clear runway to build the foundation for law or graduate school, a paralegal career, or a career in legal operations. What we look for Outstanding academic record from a rigorous undergraduate program. We accept strong candidates from any major; pre‑law or legal coursework is not required. Genuine curiosity about the legal function of a quantitative investment firm and how it operates. Demonstrated ambition and ownership: you have built, led, or fixed something and can articulate it. Critical thinker who notices opportunities for improvement and acts on them. Comfort turning ambiguity into structure to evaluate and solve problems. Strong analytical and communication skills, with the judgment to handle sensitive and confidential matters. Capable of managing multiple work streams simultaneously with high attention to detail. Team player drawn toward a collaborative working environment. Requirements Early-career candidates with a strong academic record; current bachelor’s students and recent graduates from any major are welcome to apply, and prior legal coursework or a pre‑law background is not required.
