Senior Geospatial Data Engineer - McLean

Salary: $137,000 - 200,200 per year Requirements:

  • We require an active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with polygraph.
  • We require U.S. citizenship, and certain roles may require U.S. person status under export control rules.
  • We require a bachelors degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • We require 12+ years of professional experience in geospatial technology, software development, data engineering, data analysis, or a similar technical discipline.
  • We need strong Python expertise for geospatial processing, automation, transformation, analysis, and workflow improvement.
  • We require experience working with large geospatial datasets, including cleaning, joining, enriching, validating, and preparing data for analysis or publication.
  • We require hands-on experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Portal, or ArcGIS Online, including publishing and maintaining hosted feature layers, web maps, dashboards, and related content.
  • We require experience curating geospatial holdings, with a focus on organization, metadata, discoverability, and data quality.
  • We require experience creating dashboards, reports, or visual analytics in Tableau or a similar business intelligence platform.
  • We require knowledge of geospatial formats, projections, coordinate systems, spatial joins, geoprocessing workflows, cartography, and spatial data management.
  • We require experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL/PostGIS, for storing, querying, and managing spatial or tabular data.
  • We require strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer engagement skills.
  • We require the ability to work independently with minimal oversight while coordinating effectively across teams, offices, and mission stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
  • We partner with mission users to understand geospatial data needs, analytical questions, visualization requirements, and operational workflows.
  • We identify, acquire, clean, transform, validate, curate, and publish large geospatial and tabular datasets from multiple sources.
  • We develop Python scripts and tools to automate geospatial data processing, quality control, enrichment, transformation, and publication.
  • We manage and refresh ArcGIS Portal content, including hosted feature layers, map services, web maps, dashboards, data hubs, and other geospatial products.
  • We build and maintain Tableau dashboards, reports, and analytical visualizations for the data processing office and mission stakeholders.
  • We apply cartographic best practices, including symbology, labeling, layer management, metadata, and performance tuning, to improve usability.
  • We integrate structured, unstructured, tabular, and spatial data into unified analytical and visualization environments.
  • We support geospatial data library activities such as dataset organization, metadata creation, version control, quality checks, discoverability, and lifecycle upkeep.
  • We create documentation, data dictionaries, SOPs, user guidance, and technical recommendations to support repeatable workflows.
  • We work independently across two office environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and communicating clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
