SCHOOL PUPIL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY COORDINATOR

School Pupil Transportation Safety Coordinator Classification: SCHOOL PUPIL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY COORDINATOR Salary Range: $4,618.00 – $6,003.00 per month (New to State candidates hired at minimum salary of classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable). Location: In Office (Telework: No), Work Type: Permanent, Full Time. Responsibilities: Conducts written and driving examinations for School Pupil Activity Bus (SPAB), School Bus, Youth Bus, General Public Para‑transit Vehicle (GPPV), and Farm Labor, and issuance of temporary school bus certificates. Maintains current files and records of all certified driver’s applications, certificates, and training records. Ensures applicants properly fill out the application portion of the California Special Driver Certificate (DL 45) and collect fees. Reviews all paperwork for accuracy and fills out Applicant Discrepancy Identifier (CHP 295D) forms for missing paperwork. Administers appropriate rules and regulations test and, if required, first aid examinations. Corrects all tests, allows applicants to review test materials, and documents results on the Special Certificate Application (CHP 295). Types certificates and submits pink portion of DL 45 with fees to clerical. Records all DL 45 forms for tracking and auditing. Fills out CHP 295 form upon successful completion of drive tests, documents restrictions, and submits a PDF copy of the applicant’s permanent DL 45 certificate to the Commercial Vehicle Section. Reviews all traffic collisions involving drivers with Special Driver’s certificates, generates letters for actions to be taken if the Special Driver is at fault, sends copies to appropriate agencies, and logs entries into collision records. Notifies other School Bus officers when the driver is from other areas. Liaises with Department Motor Vehicle for certification problems and Driver Safety Review. Schedules appointments with applicants and provides information to the public as needed. Checks carrier records annually, inspects school bus stops for exempt red lights annually, handles suspensions, revocations, and actions involving Special Driver Certificates, notifies employers, retrieves certificates, attends school pupil related meetings, attends workshops and driver training institutions, performs other job related duties within the scope of the classification, and assists other areas with testing when available. Desirable Qualifications Well organized with attention to detail; ability to multi‑task; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to work independently and as a team member; excellent attendance and a comfortable working knowledge of personal computers and associated software. Would be tactful and maintain a good rapport with employees, peers, supervisors, and the public. Ability to manage personal and professional priorities effectively.
