Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. All NVA hospitals share an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patient medical care Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Externship Length and Participation Externship experiences at Massanutten Animal Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Travel and Living Expense Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend program.
