Senior Director of Human ResourcesA mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Human Resources to provide both strategic leadership and hands-on execution across all HR functions. This leader will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership, driving initiatives in talent acquisition, retention, employee relations, organizational development, compliance, workforce planning, and culture. The role offers executive-level influence on organizational strategy while remaining deeply engaged in day-to-day HR operations to support a workforce that delivers critical community services.ResponsibilitiesServe as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, succession planning, organizational effectiveness, change management, employee engagement, and leadership development.Develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and long-term workforce needs.Partner with Senior leaders to drive accountability, performance, and a healthy organizational culture.Lead initiatives that improve employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and retention outcomes across the organization.Oversee recruiting, onboarding, retention, and workforce planning efforts to ensure the organization attracts and retains high-quality talent.Evaluate hiring processes, establish recruiting metrics, and enhance speed-to-fill and talent attraction strategies.Develop workforce plans that align staffing levels and skills with operational and service delivery needs.Lead employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, corrective action processes, conflict resolution, and leadership coaching.Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, policies, accreditation standards, and internal controls.Support organizational audits, regulatory reviews, personnel file compliance, and documentation requirements.Partner closely with Quality, Risk Management, and operational leaders on compliance-related initiatives and risk mitigation.Lead leadership development, succession planning, training, performance management, and broader organizational development efforts.Utilize workforce analytics and HR metrics to inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement initiatives.Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.Lead and develop the Human Resources team by providing coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development opportunities.Provide oversight of HR operations while ensuring exceptional service delivery to internal stakeholders and departments.Build and refine HR processes, metrics, and systems to improve efficiency, consistency, and operational results.Collaborate with a seasoned Senior leadership team to shape recruiting, retention, culture, and workforce planning initiatives.Champion HR best practices and ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices are consistently applied.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.7+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including significant Director-level or higher responsibility.Proven experience partnering with executive leadership and influencing organizational strategy.Demonstrated experience leading employee relations, talent acquisition, retention, organizational development, compliance, and workforce planning initiatives.Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements.Experience managing audits, investigations, policy administration, and regulatory compliance efforts.Demonstrated ability to build HR metrics, improve processes, and drive operational results.Strong business acumen with the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution.Proficiency in employee relations, including conflict resolution, coaching, and corrective action.Experience in recruiting and talent acquisition, including developing and monitoring recruiting metrics.Experience in compliance management, including coordination with internal or external auditors.Strong leadership communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.Experience working within nonprofit organizations or mission-driven environments.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious HR leadership experience within nonprofit organizations.Experience supporting behavioral health, mental health, human services, social services, healthcare, education, government, or other mission-driven organizations.Experience in highly regulated, audited, or compliance-driven environments.Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.Experience leading HR functions in organizations that prioritize community impact and critical social services.Comfort working in a collaborative Senior leadership environment that emphasizes shared accountability and a "first team" mindset.Interest in roles that combine strategic leadership with hands-on problem solving and operational involvement.Work EnvironmentThis role operates within a mission-driven nonprofit organization that provides critical community services in a highly regulated and audited environment.
