Position Summary:

The Commissioning Manager is the technical manager and primary escalation point for ERock's commissioning technicians within the System Integration organization and is the single point of accountability for confirming that each unit's complete control system — PLCs, protective relays, generating-set controllers, and the SCADA supervisory layer — performs as designed before it is placed in service. This role leads the preparation, scheduling, execution, troubleshooting, documentation, and closeout of commissioning activities from factory acceptance testing (FAT) through site acceptance testing (SAT) and final energization, across ERock's low-voltage and medium-voltage microgrid projects. The manager develops the commissioning team's technical capability, establishes repeatable practices, and ensures technicians have the direction and support needed to execute safely, efficiently, and professionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage, coach, and develop commissioning technicians, establishing clear technical expectations, work standards, training plans, and field support practices.
• Serve as the first technical escalation point for commissioning technicians and resolve routine commissioning issues before they require Director-level involvement.
• Own commissioning readiness for assigned projects, including scope review, staffing, schedule, procedures, tools, drawings, test plans, customer requirements, and open technical questions.
• Plan and lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and final energization of PLCs, protective relays, generating-set controllers, and switchgear, leading execution directly on straightforward low-voltage sites and coordinating the commissioning scope for unique and medium-voltage sites.
• Develop and maintain commissioning procedures, test plans, and check sheets, and verify that as-commissioned configurations match the approved design and the fleet engineering standard.
• Verify protection settings, control logic, communications, and sequences of operation in the field, and confirm correct end-to-end behavior between the control layer and SCADA.
• Partner with the Automation and Controls engineering team on advanced sites, ensuring a coordinated handoff between technician-led commissioning and engineering-led controls integration.
• Own field safety during commissioning, including energization readiness, lockout/tagout boundaries, and job safety analyses; hold or escalate any energization that does not meet readiness criteria.
• Provide technical oversight of third-party relay and protection testing, review results, and ensure required issues are tracked through resolution.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Project Management, O&M, NOC/SCADA, third-party testing providers, and customers to resolve dependencies and maintain schedule alignment.
• Identify, document, and drive resolution of commissioning findings and punch-list items, and review commissioning data, test reports, and turnover packages for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with design intent.
• Maintain commissioning records and turnover/closeout documentation, and feed field findings back to engineering to improve the fleet standard and reduce recurring issues.
• Establish repeatable commissioning procedures, checklists, templates, controller files, test records, and lessons learned, particularly for first-of-kind technologies and configurations.
• Identify resource conflicts and execution risks early, communicate them clearly, and recommend practical solutions to protect project delivery.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, qualification, and progression of commissioning technicians, and contribute to the development of the commissioning training program.
• Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Requirements:

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

• Minimum Years: 7+ years of progressive experience in electrical power generation, microgrid, industrial controls, commissioning, or electrical testing, including leadership or supervisory responsibility.
• Education: Associate degree or technical diploma in electrical engineering technology, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, power systems, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Hard Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of generator controls and paralleling, automatic transfer systems, low- and medium-voltage switchgear, protective relays, electrical schematics, control wiring, PLC or controller configuration, industrial communications networks and protocols, SCADA interfaces, and commissioning documentation.
• Previous Experience: Experience leading or coordinating commissioning activities from pre-mobilization through FAT/SAT, troubleshooting, turnover, and closeout on distributed generation, microgrid, industrial, utility, or mission-critical facilities, including large-scale, high-volume project environments.
• Certifications: Valid driver's license and ability to obtain or maintain required site, safety, electrical, and customer-specific qualifications.
• Other Requirements: Willingness to travel nationally, work at active construction and operating sites, support extended or non-standard schedules when required, and perform field work around energized and rotating equipment in accordance with established safety controls.

• Soft Skills: Clear communicator and practical leader who can translate technical requirements into field direction, make timely decisions, and build trust with technicians, engineers, customers, and project partners.
• Attributes: Organized, accountable, calm under pressure, proactive, collaborative, safety-minded, and committed to developing people and improving repeatability.
• Preferences: Experience with ComAp, DSE, or comparable generator control platforms; medium-voltage microgrid integration; NETA or relay-testing coordination; formal commissioning management experience on mission-critical projects; and technical training or qualification programs.
