The State Water Resources Control Board has an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor in the Office of Sustainable Groundwater Management. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 13th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation The incumbent will help implement the Water Board’s provisions of SGMA. SGMA was enacted to halt groundwater overdraft and bring groundwater basins into balanced levels of pumping and recharge, ideally through local management of groundwater. The Board’s implementation of SGMA will involve supporting local, regional, and statewide efforts and may involve limiting pumping, on a temporary basis, where and when found to be warranted. Working Conditions

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position .

In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.  Proof of residency may be required.

Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

1. Environmental science related to groundwater basins and/or groundwater quality.
2. Evaluating groundwater dependent ecosystems and depletion of interconnected surface water due to groundwater extraction.
3. Leading teams to complete complex projects.
4. Communicating complex scientific concepts and making technical recommendations.
5. Evaluating surface water and/or groundwater rights pertaining to California or analyzing laws, regulations, plans or policies related to water management.
6. Working with diverse groups on complex issues.
