The nurse will work in a telemetry environment. There will be an emphasis on caring for patients with oncology, hematology, general medical conditions, and more. Common diagnoses include GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, and general weakness. No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge is required, but nurses should be comfortable with titrating drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include insulin, heparin, Cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide. Blood transfusions will also be part of the responsibilities. Centralized telemetry techs will monitor and read strips, but nurses are expected to be telemetry aware. The charge nurse and house supervisor will be present on all shifts. Charge nurses will have a modified patient assignment. Nurse aides will be available to assist with care. Respiratory therapy will be onsite 24/7 for patient needs. Schedules will accommodate travel requests but cannot guarantee block scheduling. Every other weekend and holiday work will be required. Floating between med-surg units may occur as needed.
