Military and Family Life Counselor - Assignment Ready Counselor

Job Overview This short‑term assignment is needed from February 2, 2026 to April 30, 2026 to support military members at Pease Air National Guard Base. Candidates must be local to the base or be willing to relocate. Candidates must be independently licensed as a Social Worker (LCSW), Therapist (LMFT), or Mental Health Counselor (LPC). Responsibilities Provide adult or child and youth behavioral counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations. Deliver non‑medical counseling, training/health and wellness presentations, and consultation with parents, personnel at child daycare centers and schools, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues. Collaborate closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program meets the needs of the installation. Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality. Participate in health fairs, base/installation activities, and other on‑base events as required. Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the OSD program manager. Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field, or social work. Current independent licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPC) meeting state, Commonwealth or customer‑specific requirements. Ability to accept assignments of undefined periods, including weekends, and work full‑time on varying length assignments (from a weekend to two weeks). Excellent rapport‑building skills with service personnel, clients, families, students, parents and co‑workers. Adaptable to new working conditions and varying location rules; able to work effectively with minimal instruction. Ability to quickly engage and communicate with military members, spouses or children and respond quickly to emergent situations anywhere on a military installation or school setting. Proficiency in brief therapy and solution‑focused counseling methods. Strong familiarity with military culture is desired; prior military service or being a military family member is a plus. For CYB positions: meet the Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology. For adult counselors: experience supporting MFLC services in military community and readiness centers and on‑demand and surge assignments. US citizenship and fluency in English required. Current immunizations or vaccinations as required by assignment location. Benefits This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) covered position. The pay rate and health and welfare allowance are specified in the applicable wage determination agreement.
