Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Family Birthing Center (Labor and Delivery & Mother Baby) Duration: 14 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Must be able to circulate C-sections Description: The unit consists of 13 Labor and Delivery beds and 9 Mother Baby beds, with 2 operating room suites. Candidates must have experience working in Labor and Delivery. The average number of births per month is between 90 and 100. Nurses are expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Scheduling will be made by managers, and holiday time off will be considered but not guaranteed. Candidates should be able to float to Mother Baby or the level 1 nursery, if necessary. Ratios for nursing care are 1:2 in Labor and Delivery and 1:4 in Mother Baby. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. There are no nurse aides in the unit. The facility has an OB physician and anesthesia available 24/7. There is an IV team and respiratory therapy available around the clock. There is no call requirement for travelers. Additional patients encountered include standard labor cases and high-risk pregnancies. Triage of obstetric patients occurs for those 20 weeks or greater. Patients under 20 weeks are evaluated in the emergency room. Floating to other departments will occur based on the nurse's experience. The floor-specific orientation required may vary depending on the individual skill set. The charge nurse may take patients if necessary. Extra shifts are also available. Cancellation policies allow for the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
