Grounds Manager

Position: Grounds Manager, Physical Facilities Department (Full Time) Job Summary Oversee and coordinate all grounds‑related activities for the Physical Facilities Department, ensuring safe and attractive landscapes while complying with all relevant laws and policies. Responsibilities Plan, direct, manage, and lead the overall operation of the University Grounds crew. Ensure compliance with applicable pest control and water management rules, laws, and policies. Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate cultural practices for turf and tree care, irrigation, and storm water management. Coordinate and assign daily groundskeeping schedules and assignments for 3‑12 employees. Monitor employee performance, prepare performance evaluations, and provide constructive counseling. Train new and existing groundskeeping employees in proper equipment use, hands‑on work, and safety procedures. Draft budgets and determine equipment needs and services. Carry out groundskeeping activities such as snow removal, mowing, trimming, sprinkler line repairs, furniture relocation, package deliveries, office moves, planting/watering annuals, mulch distribution, and other related duties. Maintain and oversee all grounds‑related equipment and coordinate with Facilities staff to order supplies and materials. Perform general campus grounds cleaning, snow removal, sidewalk and street sanding. Fertilize, prune, plant, weed, aerate, power rake, and maintain sprinkler systems; apply pesticides and blow sprinkler systems as needed; remove trash. Keep equipment in good running condition each season. Move services, office furniture, and equipment; perform yearly plant‑in for campus and hardscape maintenance. Assist with special event setups. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Knowledge of installation, repair, and application of above‑ground and underground irrigation systems. Knowledge of horticulture and landscape maintenance. Knowledge of safety and accident prevention practices. Must obtain a pesticide license for #55 Regulatory Weeds within four months of award and maintain it annually. Preferred Degree or certification in horticulture and landscape design. Extensive knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds construction and care. At least three years of hands‑on experience in landscaping and groundskeeping duties. Experience maintaining large grounds areas. Multiple years of supervisory experience. Extensive knowledge of principles, materials, and methods of grounds maintenance and equipment repair. Knowledge of pest management practices, including weed management. Knowledge of storm water management practices. Physical Demands Lift 50–100 lbs from ground level to a height of 4–6 inches and carry 30 lbs up to 30 ft. Compensation Hourly rate: $25.401 per hour (Full Time) Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance with low deductibles and comprehensive coverage.
