Senior Accounting Consultant

Senior Accounting ConsultantOur client, a growing consumer-focused organization located in the southeast, is seeking a senior accounting consultant to support an accounting transformation and cleanup initiative. This role requires a strong technical accountant who can independently identify and resolve complex accounting issues, interpret contracts, and determine the appropriate financial and accounting implications, and personally work through detailed reconciliations and cleanup activities. The ideal candidate will combine Controller-level accounting judgment with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and perform the detailed work necessary to get the accounting function where it needs to be. Location: Fully remote candidates will be considered. Must be willing to travel occasionally to client's site. Duration: Initially expected to be at least four months, with the potential for a longer-term engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide hands-on Controller-level support across general ledger accounting, close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.Read and interpret customer, vendor, and other business contracts to identify financial implications and determine appropriate accounting treatment.Prepare and review journal entries, account analyses, and complex balance sheet reconciliations.Research and resolve historical cash, general ledger, and balance sheet discrepancies.Lead accounting cleanup and account correction initiatives, including personally performing detailed reconciliation work when necessary.Reconcile financial activity across the general ledger and multiple supporting systems.Support revenue, customer transaction, inventory, and other transaction-based accounting.Manage and resolve sales and use tax accounting and compliance matters.Review transactions flowing through purchasing, payment, expense, and customer-facing systems to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.Improve accounting processes, internal controls, documentation, and close procedures.Partner with finance, operations, and other departments to identify and resolve accounting issues.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred but not required.Significant progressive accounting experience, including Controller or comparable senior-level responsibilities.Very strong technical accounting, general ledger, and financial reporting skills.Demonstrated ability to interpret contracts, understand their financial implications, and determine appropriate accounting treatment.Strong sales and use tax experience.Exceptional reconciliation skills, including experience resolving complex or longstanding balance sheet and cash discrepancies.Experience with accounting cleanup, process improvement, and financial systems projects.Strong Excel, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.Experience working across multiple financial and operational systems.Comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment with incomplete or imperfect information.Must be willing to roll up their sleeves and personally perform detailed accounting and cleanup work rather than simply manage or delegate it.Preferred ExperienceNetSuite or another cloud-based ERPE-commerce or high-volume transaction environmentsRevenue and contract-related accountingInventory accountingPurchasing, payment, and expense-management platformsMulti-system accounting environmentsConsumer products, hospitality, retail, services, entertainment, or other fast-paced industries
