Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a School Nurse at SCOPE South. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible specialist position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The School Nurse will be responsible for managing the health and wellness of students, administering medical care, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about children's health, well-being, and development, with strong communication and organizational skills. School nurses follow state regulations and guidelines to best address the health and safety of all students in Delaware public schools.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must hold or be eligible for a School Nurse certification in the State of Delaware
• Must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from a Regionally Accredited college or university
• Must hold an active, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse issued by the Delaware Board of Nursing or an active, unencumbered multi-state compact registered nurse license
• Certifications in CPR and AED use
• Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and behavioral health-related medical concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Administer prescribed medications and implement physician orders in accordance with district policies and individual student health plans.
• Review health records received from students' home districts to ensure continuity of care and appropriate medical supports during enrollment.
• Collaborate with home district school nurses to coordinate student health services, communicate changes in health status, and ensure continuity of medical care.
• Implement and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and medical accommodations while students are enrolled in the program.
• Respond to medical emergencies, including seizures, allergic reactions, injuries, behavioral crises with medical implications, and other urgent health situations, following established emergency protocols.
• Maintain accurate, confidential health records and document all student visits, treatments, medications, and health-related incidents in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Communicate regularly with families, home district nurses, healthcare providers, and school staff regarding student health concerns, medical needs, and follow-up care.
• Participate as a member of multidisciplinary teams to support students' behavioral, social-emotional, and physical health needs.
• Provide health-related consultation and training to staff regarding student medical conditions, medication administration, emergency procedures, and infection prevention.
• Promote a safe and healthy school environment by monitoring infection control practices, communicable disease protocols, and health-related safety procedures.
• Coordinate with home districts regarding required health documentation, immunization records, physical examinations, and other compliance requirements, ensuring records remain current throughout a student's placement.
• Assist with transition planning by communicating pertinent health information to home district nurses when students enroll, transfer, or return to their resident schools.
• Support students with chronic health conditions by monitoring symptoms, providing appropriate interventions, and collaborating with families and healthcare providers to promote student success.
• Participate in IEP, Section 504, manifestation determination, and other student support meetings as appropriate, providing medical input and recommendations related to student health needs.
• Maintain current knowledge of state regulations, nursing best practices, and behavioral health considerations affecting school-aged children and adolescents.
• Foster collaborative relationships with administrators, counselors, social workers, behavior specialists, and community agencies to support the comprehensive health and well-being of students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district. This position may require additional workdays during the summer months beyond the standard school-year schedule.
