Job Summary Principal Scientist II, Lipid Chemistry – leading design and synthesis of novel lipids for lipid nanoparticle‑delivered mRNA medicine. Responsibilities & Duties Lead and optimize novel lipid designs and chemistries for LNP platform technology development. Plan and execute efficient synthetic routes, optimize reactions, troubleshoot transformations, and solve synthetic bottlenecks. Design multistep routes for synthesis and purification for scalability and purity, generate focused analog libraries to explore SAR. Lead research efforts independently, collaborate with cross‑functional product development teams to drive design, screening, development, and production of novel tLNP formulations. Review literature, patents, and abstracts to stay current; provide scientific expertise in lipid nanoparticle–based delivery systems. Represent the department in cross‑functional platforms, pipeline and development teams, translating experimental findings into improved molecular designs. Present synthetic strategies, experimental results, and SAR insights clearly and concisely. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in a science‑related field (16 years of related work) or Master’s Degree/PharmD (14 years) or PhD (8 years) with significant related experience. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry with independent contributions to design and development of novel lipids and delivery chemistries. Demonstrated deep expertise in synthetic organic chemistry with strong publication or industry record. Proficient in synthetic design, purification strategies, and analytical characterization (e.g., NMR, LC/MS) for lipids and LNP formulations. Extensive experience with advanced route design, multi‑step synthesis execution. Strong problem‑solving skills in synthesis, reaction development, optimization, and troubleshooting. Strong proficiency in authoring and reviewing technical reports. Compensation & Benefits Base pay: range detailed in the posting; actual compensation dependent on location and other factors.
