Budget Assistant

Position: Budget Assistant (Budget Assistant 1A‑2A) – Grade A‑13, Budget Management Division, Prince George’s County Health Department. About The Position Entry‑level para‑professional budget support role. Incumbent performs routine budget‑related administrative tasks supporting professional budget analysts, including data collection, clerical work, audit review of budget materials, preparation and monitoring of the budget, and maintenance of system records. Work is evaluated by timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to prescribed budget procedures. Examples of Work Assist in the preparation of annual operating and grant budgets by gathering historical and current financial data. Maintain budget tracking spreadsheets to monitor allocations, expenditures, and available balances. Prepare supporting documentation for budget adjustments, amendments, and transfers. Assist in compiling financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed. File and maintain budget documents and supporting records for easy retrieval. Assist in processing payment requests in accordance with established procedures. Verify account coding and funding information based on supervisor instructions. Track the status of procurement requests and follow up as needed. Maintain organized procurement files and documentation. Assist in preparing and routing personnel action documents for review and approval. Maintain personnel‑related records and ensure documentation is complete and up‑to‑date. Support time‑keeping processes by collecting and reviewing time sheets for completeness. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D. 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university towards an associate’s degree with coursework in accounting and financial management. One year of experience providing paraprofessional support to an accounting or budget office performing budgetary or financial record‑keeping. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
