Food Safety Supervisor

Overview Summary of Functions: The Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all food safety programs within all manufacturing facilities. This role ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations – including those of the FDA, USDA, and CDFA. The position supports internal and external audit functions, aids in continuous improvements, and supports a culture of food safety. The Food Safety Supervisor is the designated backup SQF Practitioner. Major Duties and Responsibilities Lead, develop, implement, and monitor food safety programs (HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs) Conduct routine facility audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards (GMP inspections, Brittle Plastic & Glass inspections, and Exterior & Grounds inspections) Manage documentation and recordkeeping for food safety programs, including corrective actions and verification activities Conduct, instruct, and follow up with internal audit findings Primary contact for pest prevention company Train and coach production staff on food safety procedures and hygiene Investigate food safety incidents and implement root cause analysis and corrective actions Monitor and report air curtains Collaborate with QA, Production, and Maintenance teams to ensure food safety is integrated into daily operations Validate policies and cross-reference code(s) with prerequisite programs Monitor allergen controls, product traceability, and recall readiness Stay current on industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging risks Other duties as assigned Food Safety Requirements/Responsibilities Comply with all Plant, State, and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations Conduct verification of monitoring activities to ensure the finished product complies with food safety and quality specifications Responsible for the Validation and Verification of the SQF system Participate in the yearly review of the food safety system Assist in the maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality system Interface with other departments and trainers to develop and implement food safety programs as required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in food science, Biological Science, or Dairy Science preferred Experience with FDA and Quality Systems rules, regulations, including planning and implementation Minimum of 5 years’ quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably dairy processing Excellent teamwork and strong communication skills SQF Practitioner training course is a plus Must have strong verbal and written communication skills Attentive to detail Ability to work independently and achieve problem resolution with minimal supervision Competent in the use of Microsoft Office programs Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
