Maintenance Technician

Location: HMHSS Scott AFB, 4570 George Washington Dr., O'Fallon, IL 62225, USA Hiring for Maintenance Technicians at all levels: I, II, and III A Brief Overview The Maintenance Technician provides general and specialized maintenance to rental housing. This position may also perform work to prepare rental units during change of occupancy. This role is a valuable member of the maintenance team and is responsible for checking, troubleshooting, and making routine repairs in the following areas: air conditioning, water heaters, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other building maintenance areas. This position will frequently work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as in attics, crawl spaces, and other tight spaces, depending on the maintenance requirement. What you will do Respond to service requests regarding furnaces, air‑conditioning systems, appliances, water heaters, solar collection, disposals, general plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other required maintenance items. Perform skilled work in one or more trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, or locksmith, requiring advanced knowledge and troubleshooting abilities. Maintain equipment such as tools, gauges, Freon recovery systems, snakes, drills, etc., keeping them ready for repair and demonstrating a safe and proficient operational knowledge of tools. Understand and follow the proper use of equipment and chemicals and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow and adhere to an established preventive maintenance program for all heating and ventilation systems and perform required maintenance including replacement of filters. Assist in making ready of vacated units, including painting, sanding, varnishing, floor tile removal and replacement, ceramic tile replacement, drywall repair, fixture repair and/or replacement, floor stripping, waxing, polishing, window repair and/or replacement, and similar exterior work as required. Perform emergency maintenance, including but not limited to sewage back‑ups, water main and/or lateral breaks, fires, weather‑related damage, other water leaks, and appliance repairs. Ensure that unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner. Drive for the company using either a company vehicle or a personal/rental vehicle to conduct company business more than 50% of the time. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent) with advanced training resulting in a certification required, or A degree/journeyman license in building maintenance, one or more skilled trades or other related subject required, or An acceptable amount of on‑the‑job experience in building maintenance or one of the skilled trades required. 4‑6 years of residential maintenance experience (five or more years required). Strong knowledge of building maintenance and specialized knowledge in one or more of the following trades/skills: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, appliance repair, or locksmith. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, perform physical work, and lift weights of up to 50 pounds regularly and above 50 pounds occasionally. Team‑player who pays close attention to detail and can prioritize in a fast‑moving environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people in various situations. Basic computer knowledge. Reliable and dependable attendance and punctuality. Basic understanding of safety practices. Requires daily use of technology platforms. Valid driver’s license in the state required. EPA 608 Certification within 180 days required. Compensation We are committed to offering competitive and equitable compensation. The hiring range for this position is generally between $25.98 and $32.43 per hour, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus. Final salaries will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, licenses, certifications, and experience.
