Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Title

The Medical Technician performs, evaluates, and interprets the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.

Duties

The duties include:

• Performing a broad range of laboratory procedures to include pre-analytic, analytic and post analytic processes with minimal technical supervision.
• Performing testing in one or more of the following areas: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing, phlebotomy, hematology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry, immunology, toxicology, urinalysis, referral laboratory, microbiology, and specimen processing.
• Recognizing data with life threatening (critical) implications and understanding the importance of immediately bringing the data to the attention of the patients' physician and/or nursing staff.
• Evaluating and solving problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis considering physiologic processes and requirements.
• Maintaining and documenting the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Using, calibrating, identifying malfunctions, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment. Diagnosing deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction.
• Performing and documenting quality control and assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
• Adhering to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace.
• Identifying discrepancies, solving problems, and presenting solutions.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
