Our unit manages diverse observation cases including cardiology workups, COPD exacerbations, IV therapies, and abdominal pain evaluations , making it an ideal environment for nurses who thrive on variety and clinical challenge. This fast-paced, collaborative unit emphasizes strong interdisciplinary teamwork. Nurses play a key role in coordinating patient admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges , ensuring safe and efficient care across the observation stay. Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attend education programs based on identified needs. Use patient education materials relevant to patient population. Assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers and developmental level. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes. Seek guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participate in discussion with interdisciplinary team in evaluation of patient care. Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational and safety aspects. Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required. Utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards. Organize and prioritize care. Consult resources timely regarding complex care issues, teaching needs, or high risk for discharge planning. Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth. Achieve goals within timeframe. Knowledge of intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities. Use communication systems effectively. Promote cost-effective care. Give feedback to co-workers. Stay aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines. Promote safe, clean and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations to prioritize care. Include physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs. Synthesize assessment data into meaningful whole. Assess and anticipate discharge needs. Develop relationships with families to promote their advocacy. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care. Use multidisciplinary resources. Use full communication spectrum. Address cultural and ethnic issues. Prioritize tasks for complex problems. Research – Read journals for applicable studies. Bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Other Information Education Requirements: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree within seven years. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
