Human Resources Coordinator (Greater Chicago Area)

El Popocatepetl Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Bilingual Human Resources Administrator / Coordinator to join our HR team.

This is a hands-on position combining HR administration and coordination responsibilities. The HR Administrator / Coordinator will work closely with employees, supervisors, payroll and management to support day-to-day HR operations, including onboarding, employee records, benefits administration, timekeeping and payroll preparation, attendance, compliance, recruiting, and employee support.

• Coordinate onboarding, new hire orientation, I-9 documentation, and pre-employment requirements
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within HRIS and payroll systems
• Process employee changes, including hires, transfers, and terminations
• Support benefits administration, including enrollments, employee changes, documentation, and employee questions
• Coordinate weekly payroll preparation by reviewing time records, identifying discrepancies and missed punches, and working directly with employees and shift managers to resolve issues prior to payroll processing
• Monitor attendance, PTO, sick time, accrual balances, and related employee documentation
• Support compliance with the Chicago Fair Workweek Ordinance, including scheduling requirements and Predictability Pay
• Serve as a day-to-day HR resource for employees and supervisors regarding policies, procedures, benefits, attendance, and timekeeping
• Assist with workers' compensation, employment verifications, HR reporting, and audits
• Coordinate employee training, meetings, and other HR initiative
• Partner with supervisors and managers to ensure HR documentation and employee matters are addressed timely
• Support HR projects, process improvements, and other departmental initiatives

• Bilingual English/Spanish required
• 3+ years of Human Resources experience required; 4+ years preferred
• Working knowledge of the Chicago Fair Workweek Ordinance, including scheduling compliance and Predictability Pay
• Knowledge of Chicago and Illinois employment requirements
• Experience with timekeeping, payroll preparation, attendance tracking, PTO/accruals, and employee documentation
• Experience with HRIS, payroll, and/or workforce management systems; NetSuite SuitePeople/WFM experience is a plus
• Strong proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Calendar and Microsoft Office 
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, supervisors, management, payroll specialist and outside partners
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, but not required
