Academic Program Manager

Academic Program Manager – Communication Arts Location: College of Letters & Science, Department of Communication Arts, University of Wisconsin‑Madison. Job Summary: This role provides holistic academic advising, curriculum and operational management for undergraduate degree and certificate programs. The Academic Program Manager draws on experience in advising, budgeting, and policy implementation and leads a team of advisors, partnering with faculty, staff and external stakeholders to enhance the academic experience. Key Responsibilities Manage the unit budget and approve unit expenditures. Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, and approving hours worked for at least 2.0FTE equivalent employees. Assist stakeholders with documentation, financial management, and reporting related to sponsored grants, contracts or agreements. Serve as liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups to identify and maintain academic program–related partnerships. Provide full‑service advising resources and services, communicate directly with students, and manage the advising process. Identify, propose, and implement new or revised unit operational policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies and academic program objectives. Manage degree programs and/or certificates, high‑impact practice programming and events, and curriculum development and implementation. Evaluate existing academic program strategy and make recommendations for program enhancement. Lead the development and implementation of academic program initiatives. Qualifications Minimum 3years of experience in academic advising or related student services position. Experience using computer software/programs (e.g., Zoom/Teams, word processing, spreadsheets, databases). Experience interpreting and implementing higher‑education policies and guidelines. Strong organizational, verbal and written communication, multi‑tasking and problem‑solving skills. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and external partners. Preferred Qualifications 1year of supervisory experience. Experience working with course proposals and curriculum development. Experience in timetable development and enrollment management. Education Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in higher‑education administration or a similar field preferred. Compensation and Benefits The salary range is $70,000–$86,259, depending on experience and qualifications.
