Job Classification Title: Student Support Assistant Working Title(s): Bus Attendant, Student Support Assistant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: A12

This job classification description is intended to be generic in nature and not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities. The specific tasks/duties may vary based on position assignment and as determined by the District.

Job Classification Summary

Responsible for assisting with the supervision of students on assigned campus.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is an entry-level classification responsible for assisting with the supervision of students.

Essential Duties

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the District's needs.

  • In-person attendance is an essential function for this classification.
  • Assists teachers and staff in the supervision of students;
  • Assists with late, tardy or absent student notification, including escorting students to appropriate locations on campus;
  • Monitors students on the playground, in the cafeteria, at bus pick-up and drop-off locations, and other applicable areas as needed;
  • Assists children in crossing the street in established crosswalks in a safe manner;
  • Sets and removes school crossing signs before and after children arrive at crosswalk;
  • Assists student in the operation of lifting wheelchairs and assisting disabled children and securing other specialized equipment accompanying students;
  • Greets the public and provides routine information in office settings;
  • Maintains and organizes student records with confidentiality; and,
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Customer service principles.

  • Monitoring students to ensure safety and security.
  • Providing customer service.
Classification Description
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Minimum Qualifications (for new hires at job entry)
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of directly-related education and
experience.
Required Certifications/Licenses
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).
Position Specific Duties
If assigned to Bus Attendant
  • Assists driver and students in operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students; and,
  • Secures special equipment that may accompany the student.
If assigned to Student Support Assistant
  • Assists teachers in the supervision of students;
  • Escorts children to and from various locations;
  • Greets the public and provides routine information in office settings; and,
  • Maintains and organize student records with confidentiality.
