Traveling Telecommunications Decommission Technician Job Description Carrier Services Group, Inc. is seeking Traveling Telecommunications Technicians to join our installation and decommissioning teams. We are hiring candidates across multiple experience levels, from individuals with basic telecommunications or construction experience to experienced technicians capable of independently performing work and leading crews. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, removal, and decommissioning of telecommunications and network infrastructure throughout the United States. Technicians work as part of a team on projects involving telecommunications facilities, central offices, data centers, and other network environments. Depending on experience level, responsibilities may range from material handling and assisting experienced technicians to independently performing technical work, troubleshooting, interpreting project documentation, and leading other technicians. Positions may be classified as Level I, Level II, or Level III based on experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated ability. Position: Traveling Telecommunications Technician – Level I, II or III Employment Type: Contractor, Full-Time Pay: $20.00 – $45.00 per hour, dependent upon experience and assessed skill level Schedule: Primarily Monday – Friday Typical 8-hour shifts Night shifts may be required depending on project needs Schedule variations may occur based on project requirements Travel assignments may range from 1–4 weeks at a time Work Locations: United States Projects throughout the Lower 48 United States General Requirements Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer Must be fluent in English Must be able and willing to travel throughout the Lower 48 States for assignments lasting 1–4 weeks Must possess a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record Must be dependable, punctual, professional, and able to work effectively as part of a team Must be willing to learn and follow established telecommunications installation and decommissioning procedures Responsibilities Depending on experience and technician level, responsibilities may include: Install, remove, relocate, and modify working and non-working telecommunications equipment Assist with or independently perform telecommunications installation and decommissioning projects Install and remove fiber and transport equipment, DC power systems, grounding, cable trays, ladder rack, ironwork, data cabinets, racks, servers, switches, routers, and associated infrastructure Install, remove, route, label, measure, terminate, and dress copper, CAT5/6, fiber optic, coaxial, AC, and DC cabling Add and remove cabling associated with working and non-working equipment Perform basic network cable testing, fiber preparation, and DC power installation Remove equipment from telecommunications cabinets, racks, co-location facilities, central offices, and data centers Load, unload, stage, inventory, and transport equipment, tools, and materials Prepare work sites by establishing appropriate safety barriers, signage, and work areas Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other equipment required to complete projects Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas Assist with site cleanup and restoration following installation and decommissioning activities Follow customer-specific procedures, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), drawings, specifications, and project documentation Complete required project documentation and quality inspections Identify and communicate discrepancies, safety concerns, or project issues Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, customers, engineers, and project managers Oversee and Guide Temporary Labor Workers Level I Technicians typically work under the direction of more experienced technicians and supervisors. Responsibilities may include: Material handling, equipment staging, and inventory Assisting with equipment installation and removal Basic cable installation, removal, labeling, and routing Using common hand and power tools Maintaining safe and organized work areas Learning telecommunications equipment, procedures, and industry standards Following instructions, drawings, MOPs, and established work procedures Level II Technicians are expected to perform many telecommunications installation and decommissioning tasks with limited supervision. Responsibilities may include: Independently installing and removing telecommunications equipment Installing and removing copper, fiber, coaxial, AC, and DC cabling Performing cable dressing, labeling, routing, and basic testing Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and MOPs Performing basic DC power work Identifying project issues and assisting with troubleshootingAssisting and providing direction to Level I Technicians Completing project documentation and quality checks Level III Technicians are experienced technicians capable of independently performing advanced work and providing leadership in the field. Responsibilities may include: Performing and overseeing installation and decommissioning of working and non-working telecommunications equipment Working independently on passive systems Leading, training, and mentoring Level I and Level II Technicians Reading, interpreting, and producing detailed project documentation, drawings, specifications, and MOPs Performing quality validation and resolving documentation discrepancies Utilizing test equipment for troubleshooting Supervising worksite safety and ensuring compliance with applicable requirements Coordinating with customers, engineers, supervisors, and project managers Identifying field problems and developing appropriate solutions Managing equipment, materials, staging, and project workflow Physical Requirements Candidates must be able to: Frequently lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 100 pounds Stand and walk for extended periods Bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform other physical tasks associated with equipment installation and removal Climb ladders and work from approved lifts when required Safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic construction equipment Use Vending Machine Sized Dollies Work in telecommunications facilities, data centers, warehouses, and other environments that may vary by project Desired Skills and Qualifications The following qualifications are beneficial but not required for every technician level: Previous telecommunications installation or decommissioning experience Data center, central office, network infrastructure, or construction experience Basic electrical and DC power knowledge Fiber optic and copper cabling experienceExperience with routers, switches, servers, racks, cabinets, and telecommunications equipment Experience reading drawings, specifications, and MOPs Experience using telecommunications testing equipment OSHA or other safety certifications Lift or specialized equipment certifications Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, technical education, trade school, or other continuing education What We're Looking For Successful candidates will demonstrate: Strong work ethic and dependability Willingness and ability to travel Commitment to workplace safety Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity Ability to follow instructions and established procedures Effective communication and teamwork Problem-solving ability Professional conduct at customer locations Willingness to learn new technologies and develop additional telecommunications skills Experience level will be evaluated during the hiring process, and qualified candidates may be placed into a Level I, Level II, or Level III Technician position based on demonstrated skills and experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr Carrier Services Group Inc
