Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner - Pulmonary (Jefferson Street Clinic)

The University of Iowa Health Care, department of Internal Medicine is searching for an ARNP to function as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of nurse practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes for adult Pulmonary patients.

Characteristic duties and responsibilities include assuring clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization, functioning independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for pulmonary patients, collaborating with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care, determining nursing care requirements and developing programs for basic and advanced management of pulmonary disease patients, with regard to patient condition and age, promoting health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena, performing medical diagnostic procedures, and prescribing, dispensing or delivering medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place, participating in patient-management-oriented and educational conferences, providing anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families, including incorporation of palliative care, when appropriate, documenting patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generating appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence, initiating and coordinating referrals to other health care team members or agencies, serving in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes, participating in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs, providing education and serving as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise, providing education to external agencies, community and other health professionals, generating research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations, incorporating research findings into practice, participating in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes, responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned, contributing toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals, participating and contributing to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge, participating in professional nursing activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations, maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public, establishing and maintaining standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect, honesty and service; assuring that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics; constructively managing conflict, inspiring and motivating others to high performance by exercising strong stewardship of University resources, setting expectations, measuring success through individual performance evaluations, and driving organizational results, identifying opportunities for and creating development plans that encourage employees to attend to the growth of their personal and professional capacity; engaging self and staff in collective reflection of the University's greater role in society.

Required qualifications include a Master's degree, a Master's degree in Nursing is preferred, if Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required, current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required, current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.

Desired qualifications include demonstrated experience in Pulmonary medicine.
