POSITION TITLE: Teacher of the Hearing Impaired/Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

CONTRACT PERIOD: 180 days per year

REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)

POSITION SUMMARY: Serve in a dual role capacity as a Teacher of the Hearing Impaired (THI) and Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A). The position is divided between providing specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing and assisting in the delivery of speech-language services under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teacher of the Hearing Impaired (Part-Time)

• Provide direct or consultative services to students who are deaf of hard of hearing
• Support access to curriculum through accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology
• Support the use of hearing technology (e.g., FM/DM systems, cochlear implants, hearing aids)
• Collaborate with general and special education staff to implement IEP goals
• Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate documentation
• Support staff and families in understanding hearing-related needs

Speech-Language Pathologist (Part-Time)

• Implement speech and language therapy activities under the supervision of a licensed SLP
• Support students in developing communication, articulation, and language skills
• Collect data and document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives
• Assist with the preparation of materials and therapy resources
• Collaborate with the supervising SLP and educational team
• Maintain compliance with service logs and Medicaid billing documentation

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
• Illinois licensure as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
• Knowledge of IEP development and implementation
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
