IEP AND ASSESSMENT COORDINATOR

 

Definition

Under general supervision of the School Principal, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all annual Individual Education Plan (IEP) review and re-evaluation meetings are scheduled and conducted timely in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations, and that IEPs are completed and documented in the appropriate database. Additional duties include updating the data in the IEP computer tool and training staff on the use of IEP computer software tools. The coordinator must interface with appropriate vendors regarding the development and upkeep of the IEP tool and/or other data systems that are introduced to maintain the IEP and assessment data bases. The coordinator is responsible for training staff in all required alternate assessments and ensuring timelines for all requirements associated with state testing.

In accordance with the federal wage-hour laws, this is a salaried position and is not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.

Successful performance on the job requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or students, school dress standards, proper attendance and leave policies, and compliance with other policies set forth in the Employee Handbook. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving is also important to the success of the incumbent.

Examples of Essential Functions

• Responsible for coordinating the training and use of IEP computer tools.
• Maintain up-to-date list of outstanding evaluations; ensure follow-through agreed upon by SCGW and communicate with jurisdictions or outside agencies as needed.
• Review completed IEP documents to ensure all required information is complete and accurate before documents are filed.
• Conduct IEP computer and alternate assessment trainings.
• In conjunction with Assistant Principals, conduct training on the use of additional standardized assessment tools.
• Provide oversight and assistance in monitoring confidential student records and files, including IEPs, Assessments and Progress Reports.
• Maintain databases required by DCPCSB, OSSE, DCPS or other local jurisdictions in relationship to St. Coletta students.
• Interface and represent SCGW with outside agencies, such as Local Education Agencies

(LEAs) as appropriate.

• Assist school administration in the daily organizational tasks such as staffing and bus issues.
• Support overall school mission through volunteer opportunities.
• Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc.
• The ability to keep up with running children and or to lift or assist with lifting students is essential.
• Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and staff personal identifiable information.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

 

• Knowledge and understanding of students with intellectual disabilities, autism and multiple disabilities.
• Knowledge of the current Federal guidelines for Special Education.
• Ability to evaluate problems and progress of students and assessment outcomes.
• Ability to independently problem solve and navigate the steps needed to accomplish the tasks of the position.
• Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Successful completion of the required training courses within a specified period of time.
• Tuberculosis screening to assure no significant risk to the health and safety of others.
• Successfully passing a criminal background investigation.
• Knowledge of crisis management techniques.
• COVID-19 Vaccination

· Strong ability to initiate tasks and maintain required timelines.

· Strong ability to interface with outside jurisdictions and agencies to ensure that all required IEP and portfolio assessments meet require timelines.

• Skill in assessing and evaluating students with special needs.
• Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the IEPs, and assessments as appropriate.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence using English grammar and spelling.

 

Sensory Requirements

Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communication ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.

 

Minimum Acceptable Education and Experience :

Master’s degree in special education, psychology or related field. Prior teaching/instructional experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities/autism is preferred.

Hours of Work -  7:50 AM to 4:00 PM- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

 7:50 AM to 3:10 PM – Wednesday
